Covid...Influenza A...Vomiting...Colds and Coughs... when will it end? Thanks for being so responsible with keeping children home. Some of our students are getting worse Influenza A than they had Covid. Some are getting one after the other. I know many of you are worried about the number of days your children have been absent, but that is just the way things are at the moment. Let's hope with the arrival of Term 3 and then Spring we get some reprieve from the last 3 years of the Pandemic. Survey This week you will receive an email inviting you to take part in our Post Pandemic survey. In this you are asked questions about the performance of our staff and school systems during the Lockdowns and times of disruption around Covid. We would appreciate your feedback on this so we can see where we need to improve and what we are doing well to prepare us for any further disruptions we may experience due to pandemic type conditions. The survey closes on the last day of term so get in and get it done quickly. Emergency Drills Last week, after a Lockdown Drill the week before, we had a fire drill during playtime which wasn't as efficient as we can do them. So we will have another drill during lunchtime sometime this week to reinforce what to do when the alert sounds to evacuate, when they are outside of the classroom. We will also have an earthquake drill this week. It would be a good idea to have these kinds of practices at home as well to be prepared! Students Reporting to Parents ...hooray...parents coming back into school! After being cancelled because of Covid last year they are back...and it is all happening next week. WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU. TOMORROW, Wednesday 29th June, we invite all parents to spend time with their child in the classroom. Your child will share their work, progress, achievements and challenges over the last 2 terms. You just need to drop in to your child's class during one of these slots (11:00am-12:30pm, 1:30pm-3:00pm or 3:30pm-4:30pm), spend 20 or so minutes with your child and they will show and tell you about their learning and achievements, challenges and successes. Given the number of bugs and coughs and colds still hanging around we would prefer parents to wear masks as physical distancing may be a challenge. We would love to have you back in school meeting with your child and sharing their learning. Written reports will be sent to you in the last week of the term (Thursday 7th July) and we encourage you to make an appointment via email to your child's teacher if you would also like a parent/teacher interview in the first week or so of term 3. We will not be setting up a formal appointment process so please do take advantage of the 3rd opportunity (after the student reporting and written report) to hear about your child's learning this year. Kapa Haka Festival Thanks to all the amazing whānau who were able to attend the Matariki Festival on Saturday and watch our Kapa Haka group perform. They were awesome. We have another amazing event for our senior Kapa Haka group this Friday. For the second year running our Mata Au Festival, which is an all day event for our local schools, is taking place at the Lake Wānaka Centre. The children will travel there by van, leaving school at 9:00am and returning around 2:00pm. There are workshops organised and each school Kapa Haka group will perform and share what they have been working on. The Mount Aspiring students are heavily involved in the running of the workshops. We are unable to have parents attend this event due to Covid restrictions that apply across schools. Countdown to End of Term Can you believe that the holidays start at the end of next week. It seems to have gone so fast but at the same time, with illnesses and disruptions, dragged by as well. Next week is the INTERNET HEALTH online webinar for parents which you can view online at home (see poster below), the COPSSA swim champs are next Thursday 7th July, your children's written reports will land in your email box on Thursday 7th July and Friday 8th July is the last day of term 2 with school finishing as usual at 3pm. School starts for term 3 on Monday 25th July. |

Kapa Haka at the Matariki Festival A huge thank you to our amazing tamariki and whānau who braved the wintry conditions on Saturday to perform at the Matariki festival. This was our first 'live' performance for some time due to covid restrictions and it was wonderful to see the children on stage, enjoying themselves and demonstrating all the hard work they have put in. A special mention to the junior Kapa Haka tamariki who came on stage to boost numbers. I look forward to future performances from these dedicated students. |

Book Week 2022 - A Huge Thank You I extend a huge thanks to all the students and teachers for a very successful book week. The kids were in such great spirit (with the help of a short week). The celebration of Matariki was felt right around the school as well. Our author Juliette MacIver who visited us on Wednesday and performed to the entire school was fantastic, engaging all the students in all year groups. Thanks parents for supporting your children with the dress up day, the book swap and the second hand book sale. I look forward to our next book week in 2023. |
