Snow Day Procedure If snow occurs overnight, a decision regarding school closure, or a delayed start, will be made in the morning – we will notify you by the following methods: Our school website – home page Bulk email Our School App If the school closes during the day due to snow, we will notify you via the methods above – please refrain from phoning the office. Buses will not run. Children can be collected and signed out from their classrooms where they will remain under the supervision of a teacher. If you are personally unable to collect your child, then other arrangements should be made for collection. If a parent wishes to have someone that is recorded as an emergency contact collect their child, the pick up person should go to the classroom, provide identification (if not known to the teacher) and sign the child out. Now is a good time to consider your emergency contacts – and ensure that the office has recorded the details of at least two people, living locally, who you trust to collect your child if the school closes due to snow. |

Winter Bugs are about I have been at home with a bug for the last week and according to my medical centre there are a myriad of bugs circulating so remember to: Keep children at home if they show any signs of feeling unwell Do not send them back to school too early Remind them to cough into their arm or a tissue - we did this so well during Covid but people seem to be forgetting this If you are sending children to school with a cough or they are returning after an illness, a mask for a few days may be advisable There seem to be children getting one thing after another (my own grandies included, who I attribute my current virus to!) so seek medical advice when concerned Please notify the school office first thing in the morning if your child is unwell and will be absent for the day Kapa Haka events coming up Tomorrow some of the students in our senior Kapa Haka group are travelling to Hāwea Flat School to join groups from Take Kārara and Hāwea Flat to practice as an Upper Clutha Kapa Haka group to perform at the NZ Principals conference in Queenstown in term 3. Next Monday 19th June, our entire senior Kapa Haka group are spending the day involved in workshops at our UC Mata-Au Festival. There will be a performance by schools later in the day for parents of children involved. Anne Jenkins has sent an email home to parents of our Kapa Haka Group. Any questions please email Anne at [email protected]. Mid Year Reporting to Parents Thursday 22nd June: Reporting to Parents Deep Dive. Parents invited into classrooms between 11.00-12.30pm or 1.30-3.00pm or 4.00-5.00pm. Friday 23rd June: Written Reports sent home (both via email and EDGE with hard copies available from Jason by email request to [email protected]. Wednesday 28th June/Thursday 29th June: Parent/Teacher Conferences - Please see Important Notices for how to book. Don't forget you can book a meeting with your literacy lift support teachers (Marg and Kerry) (NB: Dates for Room 2 (Kylie), Room 7 (Andrena/Jen) and Room 21 (Kelly) are Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th July.) Parent Information Presentation Next Term After our successful Life Education Trust presentation via two webinars for teachers this term, about children and anxiety, I approached them to see if we could have a live online presentation for parents. The Trust (who provide Harold and the mobile classroom programmes for students' health education) have agreed to produce one for us which is to be live and interactive. We will share this live presentation with parents and interested members of the community in our school hall on Wednesday 9th August at 7pm. We will be selling tickets from our school office at $5 per ticket as we are funding this opportunity for our community and hope to cover the majority of costs associated with this. |

This week is Coeliac Awareness Week We have children and staff with coeliac disease or gluten intolerances within our school. Coeliac disease is a permanent intestinal reaction to dietary gluten and can only be managed by maintaining a gluten-free diet. Research indicates there could be up to 100,000 people in NZ with coeliac disease and 30,000 are likely to be children under the age of 18. However, many of those are unaware they have the condition. For a list of symptoms or to take an online assessment visit the Coeliac NZ website at https://coeliac.org.nz/ We are very lucky to have Wānaka Coeliac Kids Club in our community. Zoe Huggart, club co-ordinator, organises events, workshops and more. Feel free to contact Zoe via email on [email protected] for more information. |
