Anniversary Weekend Wasn't it fabulous weather over the long weekend - I walked by the lake, gardened, read books, drank a glass or 2 of vino and thought as I always do, what a peaceful, calm place it is in which we live. I hope you all managed to enjoy the beautiful days, family times and stored some of that sunshine and warmth for the winter ahead. Covid Update Today we have had more children return from isolation, or having had a positive case, than there are away. We have 10 new student cases today. Rooms 1, 4, 9, 13, 15 and 16 have each had one positive case, and Rooms 3 and 18 have had two positive cases.
However teachers are now finding themselves having positive tests - Markus and Robyn will be away for the rest of the week. Dave is isolating for the week as a household contact.
Remember, keep following those rules of keeping hygiene practices at the fore, mask wearing and keeping children at home if they show any signs of being unwell. The Ministry of Education is sending us some RAT tests this week...better late than never and we now have a stock of children's masks in case your child leaves theirs at home.
I will keep updating you all as the MoE believe that these next 2 weeks will be the peak for schools in the South Island...and 2 or so weeks after that it is Easter and the holidays so hopefully you can all enjoy the holidays without Omicron threats everywhere. PAT Catch Up As we had a number of children absent whilst we were implementing the PAT normed testing to Year 4 - 6 students we are having a catch up of students who missed out, over this week. PTA ZOOM presentation tomorrow night (Wednesday 23rd) We will send out another invitation to you all via email to join in this parenting ideas presentation from Parenting Place. This is a must view/listen for all parents. Let's see if we can get over half of our families taking part. This is PTA funded so at no cost to parents. |

Year 5 and 6 Athletics 2022 is the year of trying new things and finding solutions for our tamariki. This year because of the restrictions we ran a partial Athletics day for Pod 7 and Pod 8. The children competed in 5 events: Discus, Shotput, Long Jump, High Jump and Sprints. Results across the two pods were collated to find our champions. The results will be on the school website once the children have had their certificates presented later this week, along with the trophies for the best overall for each year group.
We were spoilt with the weather and the relaxed nature of the event, as we had less than 100 children competing, making this day special. To see our school values shining as the children celebrated and supported each other was a major highlight across the two days.
We are going to combine our results with the 'other' Upper Clutha Schools to find our Upper Clutha Champions, as unfortunately this event had to be cancelled last week because of the effect that COVID is having on our schools. We will announce these results ASAP.
Term 2 is our swimming competition, hopefully with no restrictions! |

Hot Cross Buns for Morning Tea Wednesday 6th April - 10.30-11.00am Our wonderful PTA are organising freshly baked Hot X Buns for students for morning tea on Wednesday 6th April. It would be appreciated if children can bring a gold coin as a donation for their Hot X Bun which will go towards fundraising for the schools Makerspaces' project.
The children's classroom teachers will take orders (normal buns and gluten free) and the PTA will distribute the buns to the pods between 10.30-11.00am on the Wednesday.
Parent Help with Distribution A call-out to parents to help with distribution of the Hot X Buns to the pods. Twelve parents (2 per pod) are required to help - if you and a friend can help from 10-11am on the Wednesday please fill out the attached form. Please note, at this stage you will need to be vaccinated.
Shout Out A shout out goes to Dean and Natasha Bartley at Three Parks New World who generously supply the Hot X Buns. |
