Reading Books and Reading Games Please remind your children to return any reading books or reading games you may have to their classroom before the end of this week.
Lost Property We have a large amount of lost property in our pods and school office. Please come and claim your lost property before the end of term as we will be dropping off what is left at school to Wastebusters over the holiday break.

Tribe Day Fun Run - This Thursday We are inviting children to gather sponsorship for their "Fun Run'. Sponsors can pledge per lap or make a single payment. Please pay by Friday 3rd May.
We are raising funds for our Garden to Table, Enviro and Maker Spaces programmes and equipment, whilst having a bit of fun at the same time. |

Update You may have noticed that I am away. I am so missing welcoming you to school and being in my happy place, however my husband has suffered a heart attack so I have been on leave and will not start back until term 2. He is on the mend, I am pleased to say. I am working from home, so if you need to make contact please do so. Make sure you regularly ring your dads, mums, grandparents and anyone else you love to tell them you love them.
Some events to remember this week are the Fun Run on Thursday 10-1pm and Pod 4's assembly 2.15-3pm.
Term 1 finishes at 3pm, as usual on Friday 12th April and the first day of term 2 is Monday 29th April.
Next Term The first day of term is SCHOOL PHOTO DAY.
We will be starting at 9.00am with the senior classes so the One Day School students can head off as soon as their photo shoot is completed. Please send children along in their navy polo shirts (as they always look better in photos), with shining faces, well-groomed hair and full school uniform. They will be asked to take off their fleeces etc for the photos, as usual.
The first week back next term features the Year 5 and 6 EPro8 Central Otago Challenge with the grand final on Thursday 2nd May.
The first 2 weeks for our junior and middle school classes is all business as usual, with lots of learning in the literacies, maths and of course deep learning topics with minimal interruptions. Pod 3 assembly is at the end of Week 2, Friday 10th May. In week 3 we have the Aqua Van visiting for lots of science activities for our junior and middle school and on Friday 17th May we have a performance with a magician and comedian who promotes 'Healthy Eating' with his title of his show being Be Bright, Eat Right!
The makerspaces are now well underway so should all be in place by the middle of next term, if not sooner. They are smaller than we first envisaged (inflation from when we planned these 4-5 years ago has eaten away the allocated funding and hence size of these units!) but at least will allow us to store materials and equipment. We will be looking at putting in the plastic fold down screens/curtains you see in many preschools, to allow children to work outside in this space, during inclement weather. However that will be once these are finally up and in use. We already have some funds (thanks to the PTA cookbook funds raised 3-4 years ago) to purchase tools and equipment for our Maker Spaces programmes.

Junior Run, Jump and Throw Junior sports was very successful, with the rain holding off long enough for us to complete all events. Everyone had lots of fun and experienced high jump, long jump, sprints, hurdles and throwing. |

EPro8 Challenge Over the last two weeks, all Year 5 and 6 students have been competing in a series of EPro8 Technology Challenges which help the students develop engineering, mathematics, creativity and collaboration skills. The finalists from each class competed in a grand final on Thursday, with the following teams placing:
First Place: Team CPG (Zoe, Bethan, Isaac and Archie)
Second Place: The Capybaras (Rio, Patrick, Bruno and George)
Third Place: Team 6b (Lara, Tom, Amelia and Sam)
All 3 of these teams will go through to a Central Otago Inter-School event on Wednesday 1st May 09:30am - 12:30pm. This event will be held at our school.
Congratulations to these three teams as well as all other students who rose to the challenge and gave it their best shot. |

GRIP Student Leadership Conference Last Friday, 20 of our awesome Year 6 student leaders went to Queenstown for a GRIP Leadership Conference. The day was spent discussing leadership - stepping up to be a leader, qualities of great leadership and moving forward with new ideas. Lots of fun was had by all - it was a fabulous learning opportunity! |

Top Bike Wednesday 3rd April It was an early start in the school car park last Wednesday with 12 eager and excited bike enthusiasts representing WPS at the Top Bike Competition.
What a fantastic day they all had. They took the role of working together as a team seriously and were supportive of each other throughout the whole day. Dave, Matt, Owen and Portia were awesome supportive parents, and if it wasn't for them we could not have got 12 students and bikes, helmets and bags to the event.
A big thanks to Dave who took some fun drill sessions and gave excellent tips and tricks that the students all used throughout the day.
To the 12 WPS representatives - you embodied all the WPS school values and were just AMAZING! Thank you!
Once again - we know not every parent is able to help - but to those that could - a huge thanks from the teachers and the kids. |

Positive Behaviour For Learning - PB4L PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective. The framework is based on international evidence and is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life. Each fortnight we focus on a school wide goal to encourage positive behaviours. The current goal is: 'We leave and enter areas in a respectful way'. |

Congratulations to Sam Morris Sam Morris broke 3 Otago Records over the weekend at the Otago Primary Schools Swimming Championships and the relay team got 2nd in the mixed relay.
