On 7-8 April 2022, IETM opened a new chapter. Under the title ‘Fair Enough? IETM Focus Brussels’, we moved from reflection to action and came together with over 170 members and guests to network, brainstorm and explore how we can - in small and large steps - advance the fair and inclusive transition of the performing arts sector.
The IETM Focus Brussels was a first of a kind meeting for us, where we tested a new format of workshops. We hugely enjoyed welcoming everyone to Brussels to outline the diverse and common strategies of IETM members for a fair, equal and inclusive performing arts ecosystem.
We’d like to thank all of our members, guest speakers and moderators that attended the meeting for making IETM Focus happen - their infectious energy, wisdom and experience made it a truly inspiring event. We are currently working on an extensive report based on the experiences, solutions and ideas explored that we look forward to sharing with you.

This year’s plenary meeting will be organised in the frame of Bitef festival in Belgrade, Serbia, and will explore the topics of labour and working conditions in the performing arts.
It will include an artistic programme, a day-time programme with talks and participatory discussions, a pre-meeting trip, as well as plenty of training, pitching and networking opportunities.

31 performing arts professionals from across 16 countries have been carefully selected and will gather in Berlin for a six-day of intensive training in all aspects of working internationally in the performing arts sector. Their experience will be guided by a group of experienced tutors who will share their knowledge on various topics regarding working internationally.
Kicking off Local Journeys for Change - Introducing the Selected Projects .
Last week, we held the very first online meeting for our new Local Journeys for Change (LJC), officially kicking off the start of the programme. LJC will allow members to engage and work together and empower them to bring positive change to their local professional context, communities or policy making field through training, mentorship, peer-sharing exercises and financial support.
In this first online meeting, the participants had the chance to introduce themselves and their projects, which are versatile in nature and form yet all aiming towards a fairer, more inclusive local scene. The selected projects address a diverse range of topics: empowerment, inclusion, community and advocacy.
We are encouraging the participants to share their journeys by uploading them to the IETM website, which we are excited to follow with you. The first project updates are already published, with more coming soon!

40 cultural change makers and innovators were selected to take part in the Global Cultural Relations Programme (GCRP) 2022, organised by the Cultural Relations Platform, of which IETM is a member. During the four-day GCRP on 10-13 May, they will network, share experiences and ideas, build their skills in international cultural relations and have the opportunity to develop a collaborative international cultural project.
#MeToo in Culture: From call-outs to structural change
When it comes to #MeToo in the cultural sector, IETM and our SHIFT project partners believe it is high time to shift the focus from unique cases to macro-structures, from individual experiences to collective ones. Through research and case studies, the final publication of our joint SHIFT work on Gender & Power Relations puts forward solution-oriented strategies for combating sexual harassment and power abuse in the arts, and for creating equitable and safe professional environments for art workers.
Supporting Relevance: Ideas and strategies for inclusive, fair and flexible arts funding
Amidst the crisis, simply “more money” for the arts is no longer enough. Our publication Supporting Relevance unpacks the notions of inclusive, fair and flexible funding, describes the tensions that may occur when designing such funding programmes and schemes, and brings inspiration from a few case studies. It also offers a set of recommendations for funders on how to support the arts in the most relevant way.
With their new interactive CulturEU funding guide, the European Commission wants to ease access to the funding opportunities available for the cultural and creative sectors across all the funding sources of the European Union available in 2021-2027. The aim is to help players in these sectors identify the most suitable sources of EU support for their projects

THEATRE FORUM IRELAND (Ireland) is promoting Centre Stage Online, a free online course for practitioners in the performing arts and music sectors who wish to develop their self-promotion and artistic leadership skills.
