Since 2011, Surfrider Europe fights against plastic bags pollution, a true plague for the oceans, with the campaign Ban the bag.Today, many countries and cities have decided to act in order to limit or ban single use plastic bags. Overview of the initiatives going on around the world.

SURFRIDER IN THE FIELD

RIVERINE INPUT  

CÔTE BASQUE CHAPTER

The Riverine Input project allows the quantification of pollution in the Adour River. Marine litter collections are being organized once a month on a Saturday morning.

Following up the collection, an “apéro-tri” is organized in the Surfrider facilities in Biarritz. During the last one, on the 3rd of July, over 3 400 marine litter have been sorted out and classified, of which 95% are plastic-based.

PENICHE CHAPTER 

The Peniche Chapter participated on 7th of July to a civic national movement « Petróleo É Má Onda » (« Oil is bad ») in favour of the energetic transition and the exit of the carbon energies and which took place on numerous portuguese beaches. People gathered to form a giant solidarity human cord in order to denounce the ocean as a common good open to all, to contest the hydrocarbons exploration and to promote the protection of marine ecosystems.

Cécilia Thibier joins forces with Surfrider Foundation Europe to create the "To the Ocean" t-shirt, a commitment message which tribute the ocean! 

Through her lens Cecilia manages to pass on his passion for the ocean and helps protect it. You can show your love for the ocean too, with this limited edition t-shirt!
