A strong ride against some tough competition saw Team Sunweb's Juliette Labous (FRA) take the victory on the Queen stage of Tour de Feminin today, her first victory whilst riding with the team. The Queen stage of the Tour de Feminin got underway today with a 104.5 kilometre route which included a challenging five categorised ascents. After day's first climb, only 20 riders remained inside the first group on the road. Competing in the race for her national team, Team Sunweb's Juliette Labous remained in contention as the climbs took their toll on the size of the peloton. As the front group reached the final climb Labous timed her moment to attack to perfection, going clear 500 metres before the summit. Labous' devastating blow meant that she left what remained of the peloton behind, going forward with just one other rider. The duo stayed together on the descent until Labous overtook her companion on the last corner. In a sprint between the two Labous stormed to the win, claiming her first UCI ranked victory. After the stage, Labous said: "Today was a really hard race. There were three really tough climbs towards the end and I decided to wait for the final climb to attack. I went just before the top of the climb and just one rider followed me. On the descent I stayed focused and chose my moment to overtake her really carefully. I went past her on the final corner and managed to take the win. I'm really pleased with the result, I was so motivated after an unlucky time trial earlier in the week so it's great to come away with the victory." |
