What's New from the NJBPU?

The Board of Public Utilities is excited to announce the Residential Energy Assistance Payment (REAP)! The goal of REAP is to provide financial relief to New Jersey households that are enrolled in other assistance programs, which came in the form of a one-time credit on a recent electric or gas bill. The credit appeared on over 275,000 qualifying customers' bills by the September cycle!

There is no need to register to be eligible! Eligible customers have already been identified and will be automatically enrolled to receive the credit. Back to School Best Practices for Energy Efficiency

Our K-12 school districts spend over $8 billion on energy annually, and almost 30% of that energy is used inefficiently. To keep our schools operating at top-notch efficiency, you can consider implementing the following measures:

  • Turning lights off when not in use
  • Monthly maintenance of heating and cooling systems
  • Purchase/Install energy-efficient equipment
  • Educate students and staff on energy efficient best practices
  • Set energy efficiency targets and savings goals

Check out the complete list of the Environmental Protection Agency's tipsfor maintaining energy efficient best practices throughout the year.

Sustainable Jersey is pleased to offer free energy technical assistance for energy projects to all municipalities and school districts. Current energy technical assistance offerings include Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance for Municipal Facilities and Energy Efficiency Outreach Technical Assistance.

Let's make it a safe and productive school year!

Electric Vehicles

Boost your drive for an energy efficient future

In addition to fuel and maintenance savings, rebates, tax credits, and other incentives make EVs an attractive choice in the automobile market. Many businesses are choosing to install electric vehicle chargers to meet the needs of this increasing demand. ENERGY STAR®outlines how property owners can respond to EV charging demand in their online guide for commercial buildings.

The guide outlines four recommendations for EV-ready buildings:

  •  Evaluating the need
  •  Determining power availability
  •  Installing and managing chargers
  •  Marketing your EV charging amenities

New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program provides incentives for businesses to invest in energy efficient projects. Incentives are available for multi-unit dwellings or mixed residential locations to support the purchase and installation of EV charging equipment. Local and state government and non-profit entities may be eligible to participate in the Clean Fleet EV Incentive Program. Charge Up New Jersey offers a point-of-sale EV incentive and a home charger rebate. Attractions and overnight lodging establishments may be eligible to receive funding for chargers under the EV Tourism Program. Electric utilities may offer incentives to cover the Make-Ready costs for public, multifamily, and residential charging.
