 MBTS PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWS & EVENTS

Last Open Sunday Before the Summer is April 16 & the Library will be Closed on April 17 
Visit us this Sunday and bring a craft you are working on from 2-3pm for our last open Sunday before the summer. The library will be closed the next day in observance of Patriots' Day. We will reopen at 10AM on Tuesday, April 18. Our virtual library is open 24/7 from anywhere at www.manchesterpl.org/resources

Manchester Reads 2023 begins April 1st and runs all month. We will be celebrating laughter, humor and joy with the theme "Lighten Up at the Library." Visit manchesterpl.org/events to register and see all the fun programs we have planned.

The Friends of the Manchester Library have announced the dates for collecting all those books you have been saving for their annual used book sale on August 5. Bring your books to the Manchester Middle High School parking lot on April 29, May 20 or June 10 between 9AM-12PM. Please only donate books you would be willing to buy, no ripped pages, mold or broken spines.

Meets the second Tuesday of every month at 5:30-6:30pm. Earn community service hours while having fun planning events and doing library projects with and for your friends and the community! Registration is required.

Join Ms. Carol for stories and picture bingo. For children ages 3-6 and their caregivers. Registration is required, with a minimum of 3 children needed to play.

Teen Writers Workshop
FRIDAY, APRIL 14 AT 5:30—7:00PM

Come write! Anyone in grades 7-12 is welcome to join the Teen Writers Workshop. Play games, write to prompts, share your stuff, and become a part of the local writing community. Snacks provided. REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Buildwave Workshop for Kids ... grades K-6
TUESDAY, APRIL 18 AT 2:00—3:00PM

An exciting STEM-based workshop, Buildwave is a creative building program that is structured like a video-game, with audiovisual set-up featuring animations and music.  Kids in grades K-6th will create objects with over a dozen different building materials, including LEGO, PlusPlus and custom-made Buildwave materials.  As kids create 'wave after wave' of new objects they gain creative confidence, become better collaborators and encounter design and engineering fundamentals in a unique and memorable way. To learn more, please visit: BUILDWAVE

Going Zero Waste As a Family with Sarah Robertson-Barnes (Virtual)

In this Zoom program learn how to manage eco-anxiety and lessen your impact on the planet with easy-to-implement sustainable living tips for busy families. All ages are welcome. Sarah Robertson-Barnes, founder of the Sustainable in the Suburbs blog, is a freelance writer, educator, and consultant. She lives with her husband, two kids, and rescue dog outside of Toronto, Ontario. Sustainable in the Suburbs is a resource for living low waste with kids in a culture of convenience.

Manchester Reads Presents: Comic Chat with Cartoonist Harry Bliss (Virtual)
THURSDAY, APRIL 13 AT 7—8PM

This program is offered as a part of Manchester Reads 2023: Lighten up at the Library, our community's reading fest. 

Join MBTS Public Library Director Sara Collins and Librarian Maddy Willwerth as we chat with cartoonist Harry Bliss about his career, humor, comics and his recent collaboration with Steve Martin in this webinar. 

Harry Bliss is a cartoonist and cover artist for The New Yorker magazine. His self-titled single panel gag cartoon ‘Bliss’ appears in newspapers nationally and internationally. Bliss has illustrated 26 books for children and most recently published his second New York Times best-selling collaboration with entertainer, Steve Martin: "Number one is walking : my life in the movies and other diversions". Harry Bliss is the founder of the CCS Cornish Fellowship for Graphic Novelists located in Cornish, New Hampshire. Harry Bliss lives in New Hampshire.

Mindfulness Meditation
EVERY OTHER THURSDAY AT 11AM-12PM

Alida Bryant is a Dharma Leader and meditation instructor under the guidance of Anam Thubten Rinpoche. She has been meditating for over 30 years (still very much a beginner!) and studying and practicing with lineage holders in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Beginners and experienced meditators are welcome. There will be guided meditation, some silence, and discussion. Registration is encouraged but not required. Click Here to register or for more info.

The Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library is happy to provide access to The Manchester Cricket’s Digital Archive up to 2009. The digitization of the Cricket was funded by an equal collaboration between the Friends of the Manchester Public Library and current owners of The Manchester Cricket Newspaper. Up-to-date physical copies of the current year's Manchester Cricket papers are also available at the Manchester Library. The Manchester Cricket is an independent, family-owned weekly newspaper that has served the communities of Manchester and Essex since 1888.
