Preliminary magnitude 6.4 earthquake rocks Southern California; tremors felt in Los Angeles and Las Vegas

The United States Geological Survey said the quake was centered near Ridgecrest, an inland city about 150 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Multiple large aftershocks rolled through the region in the minutes that followed.
