Longtime NYC educator Meisha Ross Porter will become the first Black woman to lead the nation's largest public school district

New York City’s Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza, who has lost 11 family members and friends to COVID-19, announced his resignation Friday saying he needed time to grieve. The role will go to Bronx Executive Superintendent Meisha Ross Porter, the first Black woman to ever lead the district of over 1 million students.
