| Some 560 wildfires were burning as of Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said, including two fire complexes that on Saturday grew to be the second- and third-largest wildfires in California history. The state is calling in help from across the U.S., Canada and Australia as land the size of Rhode Island has already burned. Many of the blazes were sparked by an unprecedented lightning siege of nearly 12,000 strikes over a three-day period. |
