1. Three new Climate Fund projects with support from Microsoft |
|
Microsoft contributed to EKOenergy's Climate Fund via its renewable energy procurement. Thanks to these contributions, EKOenergy can now grant a total of €4.2 million to three new multi-year solar energy projects. - Green Empowerment, TONIBUNG, PACOS Trust, Forever Sabah, and Energy Action Partners will bring solar-powered and community-managed mini-grids to remote Indigenous communities in Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia. - SolarAid is setting up a distribution network for solar-powered lamps in Malawi, aiming to reach 2.9 million people with affordable solar lighting and empowering local energy entrepreneurs. - Renewable World and its partners will install solar energy systems to power water distribution and support improved sanitation for people in nine hilltop communities in Jajarkot, Nepal. Check out the news article on our website for more information, and follow us on social media for regular updates. Ambitious and impactful projects like these illustrate the scale of change that corporate energy choices can drive. Thanks a lot to all those involved! We welcome additional support at any time. If you are not yet an EKOenergy user, consider becoming one. If you are already using EKOenergy, we appreciate your support! Please remember that you can always contact us to discuss increasing your Climate Fund contributions to support specific projects. |

2. €100,000 from our campaign budget to Ukraine |
|
Ukraine deserves all the support it can get right now. We recently decided to donate another €100,000 from our marketing and campaigning budget to organisations deploying renewable energy in Ukraine — because, - Ukrainians are fighting for self-determination and defending themselves against an unprovoked and immoral attack, - Russia has destroyed much of Ukraine's power infrastructure, and every additional kilowatt of solar capacity makes a difference, - when bullies side with the oppressor —as they usually do— the rest of us must stand up for justice, - we know that international solidarity and a rules-based global order are crucial for the future of our planet, - Russia is a fossil-fuel-based dictatorship that spends billions sowing division and spreading disinformation, including fake news about climate change and renewable energy. If Russia wins, the world loses. We would love to do more. Don't hesitate to contact us if you want to help. |

3. Welcome to join us at the REC Market Meeting |
|
The REC Market Meeting 2025 takes place in Amsterdam on 8 and 9 April and focuses on impact. We are honoured that two of EKOenergy's staff members will get to present how choosing EKOenergy makes a positive difference in many ways. Joanne Lin will highlight how our nonprofit ecolabel has become an internationally recognised tool to create additional impact, trusted by large corporate consumers, mentioned by various standards, and showcased in UN publications. Johannes Pättiniemi will provide more good reasons to choose EKOenergy and present several of our concrete and impactful results in panel session 4b, which zooms in on labels. We look forward to meeting many other renewable energy enthusiasts, including tens of authorised EKOenergy sellers. Together, we'll make it an inspiring and fruitful conference again. If you have not registered yet, don't wait to secure your spot. |

"Food processing is a valuable skill in rural areas, where households struggle to store food due to lack of electricity. Also, processed food is easier to transport to regional markets without spoiling, and revenue from it is higher.💰 Thank you, EKOenergy, for supporting sustainable livelihoods and food security in the rural Gambia.🌱" |

6. Other events and actions we are supporting |
|
At EKOenergy, collaborating with other like-minded organisations and campaigns is a pivotal aspect of our mission. It's a way to learn and exchange experiences, to motivate and encourage each other, and to achieve more. Here are three more examples. - EKOenergy is a supporting association of the I-REC Day Brazil, which takes place in São Paulo next week. The event is an excellent opportunity to get valuable insights into the latest developments in the renewable energy market. Thanks, Instituto Totum, for organising the event and involving us. - Together with other members of the Coalition for Higher Ambition, we wrote a letter to the European decision-makers. Ahead of the upcoming European Council and Environment Council, we call upon the EU to support a net domestic emissions reduction target of at least 90% by 2040 and to finally submit an ambitious Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). - We continue participating in the weekly Fridays For Future gatherings in front of the parliament. Our message is clear: The climate crisis is an imminent threat, but the solutions exist and are affordable. |

"Today, thanks to the Solar Cooling initiative supported by EKOenergy ecolabel and Practical Action, TUMI's dream has taken on a new meaning. A hybrid solar system with 2.3 kWp photovoltaic panels (...) enables the efficient operation of a 420-litre refrigerator." |

8. The organised assault on decency and morality; and how this assault is destined to fail |
|
Why is it that in some countries, there is an assault on decency, morality, equal opportunities, environmental rules, climate action, on being normal? And why is it that this assault is by super-rich white men? Assaad Razzouk, aka the Angry Clean Energy Guy, dives into the topic in his latest podcast. Here are some quotes: "There are some passwords. With these passwords, you can comprehend, in some way, what is going on. The first and foremost password is fossil fuels, i.e. big oil. There is a system of profit extraction, which has enormous amount of financial and political power, which will not bend to decency, and which doesn't care about the other.""Evidence shows that when you implement DEI (Diversity - equity - inclusion) correctly, actually you would improve societal and professional well-being. That means that because people feel safe and feel they belong, they become more creative, efficient, and caring, and morality goes up." "The only other password you need to know is disinformation, propagated by the same people and it has grown so big that it has become difficult to distinguish between what is accurate and what is fake.""But despite all this, renewable energy development is going to be unstoppable! The view in 2030 will be completely different from the view today. We will electrify everything, and then dismantle the obscene power structure of fossil fuels and come back to morality and decency and doing what is best for all." |
