Greetings, New Orleans food fans! This week, we look ahead to a roster of new restaurants we want to visit in 2023. Chef Susan Spicer is considering a big change, as a big honor comes her way. Ian McNulty has updates on a new restaurant from "Dook" Chase, three celebrity chefs coming to Harrah's (soon to be Caesars), and the Shaya spinoff TAVI in Covington. Finally, we welcome Chef Kevin Belton to our lineup of food writers, with his recipes for classic duck and andouille gumbo, potato salad and chicken and dumplings. 1. New year, new menus? In New Orleans, when we get together at a restaurant, we’re already talking about the next one we want to visit. In that spirit, Ian McNulty has the latest new restaurants expected to open around the area in 2023. 2. Compliments to the chef. For more than four decades, Susan Spicer has been part of the New Orleans dining scene. Now, Spicer is contemplating what her future will be like. That’s one reason the latest professional honor arrives with a special resonance. 3. Wait! There's more. A new restaurant from "Dook" Chase brings art, gumbo and brunch downtown. Nina Compton, Bobby Flay and the "Cake Boss" will bet on opening in Harrah's casino, soon to be Caesars. And TAVI, the "little brother" to Shaya, is serving in Covington under the same chef. 4. Comfort food classics. With this week's food section, The Times-Picayune and NOLA.com welcome Chef Kevin Belton to our lineup of food writers. Kevin grew up cooking alongside his mother and grandmother in their Uptown New Orleans home, and is well-known in New Orleans for his residency on WWL-TV, cooking lessons, cookbooks and PBS shows, among other accomplishments. His column will appear monthly. Check out this week's recipes for Kevin's classic duck and andouille gumbo, potato salad and chicken and dumplings. That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans, the food news never stops. Keep up with all the inside info on Where NOLA Eats. P.S.: Want to support local journalism that matters?
