Philipa King writes: It was a huge privilege and a great delight to baptise Yeewah at the dawn service at St Peter's church on Easter morning at 5am.
I first met Yeewah and her husband Angus when I was asked to conduct the funeral service of her young son, Melvyn. We have shared what has seemed to be a very long Lenten journey as the family have come to terms with such a huge loss.
As the darkness turned to light, not only was Yeewah baptised, but the entire congregation packed into little St Peter's church, renewed their baptismal vows and were liberally splashed with water!
At the end of the baptismal liturgy we heard the words. 'Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is stronger than death, passion as fierce as the grave....its flashes are flashes of fire, a raging flame...this latter image was vividly illustrated by the huge fire we had built earlier, outside the church, being blown by the wind in very direction! I'm sure we woke the entire neighbourhood with our closing hymn, 'Thine be the glory, risen conquering son!'..(..and the clocks had gone forward!)
Easter has indeed come, for Yeewah and for all of us.
