After leading a 10-day diocesan pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February, the Bishop of Ely is urging Christians in the diocese to observe a day of fasting on Friday 18 March (the Friday of Passion Week) to support Christians in Israel and Palestine.
The Bishop, the Rt Revd Stephen Conway, said: “After our recent pilgrimage to the Holy Land, it has become very clear that the forces at work in both Israel and Palestine, especially the radicalisation of both right and left, leave our Christian brothers and sisters of all denominations increasingly exposed and vulnerable.
“In response to their growing need, I call on the Diocese of Ely to observe a prayer-filled Lenten fast on the Friday of Passion Week, 18 March. I would ask that the money that would have been spent on food that day be given to the diocesan supported charity, The Friends of the Holy Land.”
Donations can be made directly via the FHL website (http://www.friendsoftheholyland.org.uk)
Alternatively, you can write to the charity at 2 Station Road, Kenilworth, CV8 1JJ.
“If you would like to know more about the work of FHL, or to arrange a presentation to a benefice or local support group, please email The Revd Alan Partridge at [email protected]. He will be very pleased to hear from you,” Bishop Stephen added.
