Where NOLA Eats

Greetings, New Orleans food fans! This week, we give you a peek inside Tito's Ceviche & Pisco, the new spot at what was formerly St. Charles Tavern. Yummy House in Kenner has big flavors in the dim sum department. Bittersweet Confections tempts early birds with its breakfast pastry. A New Orleans baker wins big for her cookies on TV, and the sushi spot Yakuza House is expanding. Finally, Liz Faul shows how to lighten up a favorite meal with her creative crunchy cauliflower taco recipe topped with jalapeño slaw.

1. Fresh on St. Charles.

Lower St. Charles Avenue took a beating in the pandemic, as Trolley Stop, St. Charles Tavern and recently Slice Pizzeria closed their doors. Now, the Peruvian family restaurant Tito's Ceviche & Pisco is bringing fresh fusion to the neighborhood.

2. Take off?

Idling in Kenner traffic near the airport, Ian McNulty's mind always wanders over to the nearby Yummy House. Recently he wandered over after it and enjoyed a delicious house specialty, dim sum.

3. Wait! There's more.

Bittersweet Confections is known for fine cakes, but its pastries and coffee lured Jabez Berniard in for breakfast. A New Orleans baker wins $10,000 on the Food Network's "Halloween Cookie Challenge." And Metairie's sushi hot spot Yakuza House is expanding.

4. Cauliflower power.

Here's a fresh take on a family favorite: Crunchy coconut cauliflower tacos are minus the meat but not the flavor. Liz Faul serves them up with a tasty jalepeño slaw.

That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans the food news never stops. For more, visit us at NOLA.com. Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
