Just 27 home health agencies have maintained a 5-star rating in quality of care during the 13 quarters the star ratings system has existed. A new report from the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) contends that while hospice care can provide great comfort to patients and their loved ones, the industry has vulnerabilities that affect program integrity and the quality of care. Medicare’s bundled payment programs are profoundly impacting the way acute-care providers are working with their post-acute care partners. Click for a list of the 27 home health agencies that have achieved 5-star ratings in quality each quarter from July 2015 through July 2018 (congrats if you’re on the list!) The Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) is designed to replace the current SNF payment methodology known as RUG-IV. The effective date of the change (from resource utilization groups to PDPM) is October 1, 2019. PDPM, as an outgrowth of the initially proposed resident classification system version 1 (RCS-1) and received commentary, is a simplified payment model designed to be more holistic in patient assessment, to capture more clinical complexity, to eliminate or greatly reduce the therapy focus on reimbursement, and to simplify the assessment process and schedule.
