| | Research Update Mid-Year 2022 Industry Data & Analysis and 2022 Startup Directory Capital deployed in Latin America in 1H 2022 reached USD15.9b across 636 transactions, exceeding full-year investment totals from prior to the pandemic. 2022 is on track to be the second largest year for private capital investment in Latin America, buoyed by increased dealmaking in digital infrastructure, renewable energy, distressed assets and early-stage startups. Private capital investors are financing the region’s bet to close the digital divide and increase competitiveness in the digital age. Over the past two and a half years, private capital funds have put over USD6.2b to work into building a series of national platforms of neutral fiber optic networks, telecommunication towers and data centers. Private capital investors have deployed over USD3.2b since 2020 to expand the region’s renewable power capacity beyond traditional hydroelectric assets. Fund managers invested USD1.3b in renewable energy in the first half of 2022, up from USD616m in full-year 2021. Investment has been concentrated on developing new solar PV projects and wind farms. Despite a slower pace of late-stage transactions, VC is having its second strongest year on record, with USD5.4b deployed across 541 deals in 1H 2022.
