Click here In the first February newsletter, we introduce Ask Archiware, explain how Introducing: Ask ArchiwareDo you have questions regarding Archiware, P5 or Pure? Would you like to discuss a setup you are planning, or the best Archive and Backup strategy for you? And what the difference between those two actually is? Ask Archiware! We now offer 30-minute telephone conversations to discuss individual questions. Calls can be scheduled via our website. Please specify the topic of the conversation as precisely as possible, so that we can choose the best person to call you back. To start with, we offer call slots on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The slot times are different each day so we can cover different time zones. To give us time to prepare, calls need to be scheduled 36 hours in advance. We look forward to talking to you! Please note that we cannot discuss support questions on Ask Archiware. To receive technical support, please use our ticket system. How P5 uses LTFSWith the release of P5 version 5.6, Archiware has introduced native LTFS support for P5 Archive. You can now mount, lable, read and write LTFS tapes within the P5 interface without the need for additional software or drivers. We view LTFS as a format that is well suited for transporting and exchanging large data sets. It allows the use of LTO tapes as interchangeable storage, which has huge advantages, especially the large capacity and the ruggedness of the media. However, LTFS also has drawbacks which users should be aware of when employing the format. This is why, in our latest Archiware Spotlight, we explain our reasoning behind the way we use LTFS. Read it all on our blog: Understanding LTFS – What it’s for and how we use it What to do with all those tapes?LTO Tape is a very safe media for storing data of any kind. However, over time, that data will need migrating, either to a newer LTO generation or perhaps to a different environment, like cloud storage. At which point you will be left with old LTO tapes. So - what to do with those? Throwing them away is neither environmentally friendly nor safe. Or cheap, for that matter. But there is a better way! Learn how The Data Media Source, Inc. in California recycles LTO tapes for re-use. And they will even pay you them! For more on this, visit the Archiware blog!
