New life for Spanish Plaza? The public space at the foot of Canal Street known as Spanish Plaza has been neglected and underused for years, but now could get a makeover that would add event space for musicians and other cultural uses. It's all thanks to a new plan in the works that would be funded an additional 2% tax on sales at the shops at Riverwalk Outlets. Tony McAuley has the story. Ambitious goal: Interim NOPD superintendent Michelle Woodfork said Wednesday her goal is to restore the force to 1,200 officers within two years, an increase of just over 300 from where it is now. Woodfork made her comments at a recruiting event, and reporter Missy Wilkinson was there. Mailer mayhem: Political mailers are often the subject of heated dispute during election season, with one candidate crying foul over what the other stuffed into local mailboxes.
