FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried jailed for 25 years for crypto fraud

Disgraced crypto entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried was jailed by a New York court on Thursday after being convicted of stealing billions of dollars from customers

Sam Bankman-Fried, founder and former CEO of failed crypto exchange FTX, has been jailed for 25 years for his role in one of the biggest financial frauds ever. The fallen crypto mogul has also been ordered to forfeit $11 billion in assets.

FTX and its affiliates filed for bankruptcy in late 2022 after the crypto trading firm collapsed following a run on assets.

Prosecutors said Bankman-Fried had cost customers, investors, and lenders more than $10 billion by misappropriating funds to fuel his desire for influence and dominance in the crypto industry, among other wrongdoings.

Bankman-Fried admitted making errors but denied criminal liability, and he will appeal the sentence ...

Apple will finally launch refreshed iPads in May, tipster claims

Earlier reports claimed revamped iPads would drop in March, then April. Now it looks more like May

The highly anticipated launch of the first iPad Pro with an OLED display and a larger iPad Air is planned for May, according to prominent Apple tipster Mark Gurman.

As previously reported, "the Pro models will get crisper new OLED displays while the iPad Air will get a 12.9-inch screen option for the first time," Gurman said, adding that the launch will bring an end to the longest stretch without new models in the iPad's 14-year history.

The last iPad refresh was about 18 months ago, and Apple hopes that the revamped devices will help reverse sluggish sales of the product ...

More creators are turning to YouTube Shorts to make money

YouTube started offering creators a share of Shorts ad revenue last year to help the short-form video feature better compete with TikTok

YouTube Shorts are now getting an average of 70 billion daily views, the Google-owned company revealed on Thursday. The format launched in 2021 and lets creators post short videos of up to 60 seconds.

Since introducing revenue sharing for Shorts last year, more than 25% of channels in the YouTube Partner Program are now earning through this option. The data shows that Shorts are getting more popular in uploads and views, allowing YouTube to compete more effectively with TikTok.

Sony drops The Spider Within, a new Spider-Verse animated short

Miles Morales faces his inner demons as Spider-Man in a new animated short, The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story

Sony has released a Marvel short film, The Spider Within, which links to a plot point from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The Spider Within follows Miles as he deals with the emotional impact of being Spider-Man, Screen Rant reports, adding that after Miles rejects his dad's offer to spend some time watching movies together, a spider-infested nightmare (not for the squeamish) persuades the protagonist that he should chat with his dad about some issues.

Jarelle Dampier directed The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story from a script by Khaila Amazan. Sony has posted it for free on YouTube, and it will presumably be on the Blu-ray of a future Spider-Verse movie ...

Activision investigating password-stealing malware targeting video gamers, report says

At this point, it appears that only those who use third-party apps such as cheats are at risk

Activision is investigating a cybersecurity incident targeting gamers with the aim of nabbing passwords for various types of accounts, according to TechCrunch.

The hackers are apparently dropping malware onto the victims' computers before stealing passwords for things like gaming accounts and crypto wallets, unnamed sources told the news site.

An Activision spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company is aware of "claims that some player credentials across the broader industry could be compromised from malware from downloading or using unauthorized software" while insisting that the company's servers "remain secure and uncompromised"...
