New Iberia festival brings founding families together to celebrate area's Spanish roots

Last weekend the streets of downtown New Iberia filled with paella, flamenco dresses and sangria, with members of the community’s founding Spanish families parading down Main Street. In shining a spotlight on the city’s history, the New Iberia Spanish Festival focuses on sharing some lesser-known facets of the region’s culture — such as the fact that names like Romero, Segura and Viator are not actually French.
