People may have to rethink their Christmas plans in order to fight a more infectious strain of Covid 19 after health chiefs warned there is “a high likelihood” the new virus is in Lancashire.
View email online | | | | | Dec 22, 2020 | | | | | | Good evening, They get a lot of stick for their lane-hogging driving, but I take my hat off to lorry drivers for their efforts on our behalf this year. At the start of lockdown,it was HGV drivers who made sure our supermarkets remain stocked and who delivered items from all over the world to our doors. They were among the key workers who we clapped on our doorsteps along with the health and social care workers who kept our hospitals going. In fact, that first lockdown showed just how important they are. So it does seem rather unjust that there are currently thousands of them queuing in Kent to take their goods into Europe in advance of Christmas...or to get to their homes on mainland Europe in time for the start of the festive season. It cannot be beyond the wit of man to come up with a solution to the problems which has led the French to close their borders to incoming freight (although they are prepared to allow their own citizens to travel to the UK!) Let’s hope it is sorted out in time for the drivers to get home for Christmas. They deserve that much, surely?
