Ocean Initiatives: take time for the ocean 

This March, Surfrider Foundation Europe will launch the 25th Edition of Ocean Initiatives, our flagship program that tackles marine litter through waste collections, education and citizen science. To bring awareness to the urgency of ocean protection, this year we’re choosing to highlight how we spend our time. In the fight against marine litter, every minute counts.

A day to remember in the fight against plastic pollution

By the end of December, the European Union reached a landmark agreement to tackle plastic pollution in our rivers, beaches and ocean. The agreed rules target the top items found on European beaches and make the EU the first region to adopt an ambitious panel of measures, including bans, to cut single-use plastics.

SEINE MARITIME CHAPTER

The Seine-Maritime chapter organized a film-debate in Le Havre, about the documentary "FishPeople" directed by Patagonia. It was an opportunity to present the actions volunteers are working on the excavation of the Dollemard landfill site. This landfill spills tons of waste in the ocean such as plastics, polystyrene and other macro-waste.

BAN THE BAG 

BARCELONA CHAPTER

On January 25th, the closing night of the exhibition "BAN THE BAG" was held at the Boardriders shop in barceloneta. This event meant to aware the audience about the impact of single-use plastic bags on the environment has highlighted the use of reusable bags. For the occasion, 9 artists illustrated on totebags, the problem of plastic bags present in the ocean.
