NDF at COP28 The two-week COP conference is a landmark event for global negotiations on action against climate change. This year’s conference is organised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 November to 12 December. The conference is an important event for identifying solutions and forging partnerships for climate action. NDF believes that by working together with our partners, we can catalyse the most impact from our financing at the nexus of climate change and development. The COP conference is an important avenue for us to showcase our work, and identify new partnerships and deepen already existing ones. At COP28, NDF will organise three events, highlighting areas central to this year’s conference. Our event on blended finance will draw attention to how NDF financing paves the way for mobilising private sector financing to climate action in countries where we work. Drawing on Nordic values and expertise, we will also showcase our work with gender equality and present how, together with our partners, we promote the sustainable blue economy to the benefit of coastal communities and ocean-based livelihoods, and ocean health and biodiversity. Climate finance for gender equality 3 December, 2023 at 10:45-11:30 (GST) Nordic Pavilion (Blue Zone, Zone 6, Building 75) Women and girls in the Global South are disproportionately affected by the impact of climate change. Despite having a crucial role in their communities, women have less economic, political influence and they rely more on natural resources for their livelihood, especially in rural areas, making them more exposed to the impacts of climate change. In this event, we bring together actors to discuss the role of climate finance to tackle gender equality. On the stage: Anne Beathe Tvinnereim (Minister of International Development, Norway), Chiedza Mazaiwana (EEP Africa), Zonibel Woods (Asian Development Bank), Dennis van der Veur (European Institute for Gender Equality), Amalie Holmefjord (UNFCCC Youth Delegate) and Leena Klossner (NDF). Blended finance to mobilise private investment to climate adaptation 4 December, 2023 at 16:00-16:45 (GST) Nordic Pavilion, Blue Zone, Zone 6, Building 75 Although climate finance has reached its record high, it is still falling short of what is needed, especially in lower income countries and countries in fragile situations. Through Nordic action, we help unlock private sector investments through blended finance, public-private partnerships, and matching concessional grants for investments. In this event, we present examples of how this has helped the climate action. The event is hosted in partnership with Convergence. On the stage: Ville Tavio (Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland), Joan Larrea (Convergence), Benjamin Diokno (Chair of G24), Marc-André Blanchard (CDPQ) and Karin Isaksson (Nordic Development Fund). Investing in the blue economy for a better future 6 December, 2023 at 12:00-12:45 (GST) Nordic Pavilion, Blue Zone, Zone 6, Building 75 Climate change affects the health of marine and coastal ecosystems and has an immediate impact on the survival of people living in the Global South. In this event, we present NDF-supported solutions from across the world and discuss the importance of the sustainable blue economy. On the stage: Noelle Obrien (Asian Development Bank), Lars Roth (Environmental Defense Fund), Chakib Jenane (the World Bank) and Yoko Watanabe (Asian Development Bank).
