I look forward to next weekâs NIH Pragmatic Trials Collaboratory virtual 2-day workshop: âGoing From Zero to 100: Generating Evidence Through Pragmatic Research To Address Pressing Healthcare Issues,â taking place on July 15 and 16.Â
I am thrilled that the director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Monica M. Bertagnolli, M.D., will deliver the workshopâs keynote address, speaking on a topic she is passionate about: bringing the benefits of medical research to the people who need it the most. She will talk about an exciting new NIH initiative, Communities Advancing Research Equity for Health⢠(CARE for Healthâ¢), which I am pleased to co-chair with Joni Rutter, Ph.D., director of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, and Debara Tucci, M.D., M.S., M.B.A., director of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. |

Probiotics may have many health benefits, but it has been difficult to pin them down. One reason why is that individuals may respond differently to the same probiotic, perhaps because of differences in age, genetic background, health history, or lifestyle, or because of differences in the microorganisms living in their digestive tracts. To get the most out of probiotics, we need to take a precision medicine approach. Precision medicine, also called personalized medicine, involves a shift away from âone-size-fits-allâ health care to therapies tailored for specific groups of people. To develop precision probiotic therapies, we need to understand the reasons why individualsâ responses to probiotics differ and use that knowledge to identify the people most likely to benefit from a specific probiotic treatment. |
| The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) invites you to attend âHarnessing AI To Explore Health Restoration in Diabetes,â a lecture in our Integrative Medicine Research Lecture Series, on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. ET. Aaron Y. Lee, M.D., M.S.C.I., University of Washington, will present this free online lecture. His talk will focus on one of the promising areas in medical research: the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to analyze large sets of data in order to gain better understanding of the restoration of health (salutogenesis) and the development of disease (pathogenesis). |
