Announcements Director's Message from Helene M. Langevin, M.D. August 30, 2022 Im proud to share a newly published Request for Information (RFI), Investigators Interests in and Barriers to Research on the Health Effects of Cannabis and its Constituents. The RFI presents an exciting opportunity for members of the research community and other stakeholders to offer insights and perspectives that will help the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) consider scientific priorities within our portfolio of cannabinoids research. | SekaiChideya, M.D., M.P.H. Wendy J.Weber, N.D., Ph.D., M.P.H. September 6, 2022 The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Helping to End Addiction Long-termInitiative, or NIH HEAL Initiative, has released two funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) to support large-scale clinical trials on sickle cell disease (SCD) pain management. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) will lead this program in partnership with nine NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices (ICOs). The funding opportunities are expected to support up to three large-scale trials. BedaJean-Francois, Ph.D. September 1, 2022 Improving the mental and emotional health of children and youth is a top public health priority in the United States. As President Joe Biden emphasized in hisState of the Union messagein March, youth have been particularly affected by the losses from COVID-19 and the disruptions in routines and relationships associated with the pandemic. And even before the pandemic, many young people struggled with serious mental health issues such as depressive symptoms and thoughts of suicide. Youth from populations that experience health disparities are having a particularly difficult time, both because they are exposed to stressors such as poverty and discrimination and because they have less access to mental health services. | Partap Khalsa, D.C., Ph.D. August 26, 2022 On Friday, September 9, 2022, the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health (NACCIH) will hold an online-only meeting, its first for Fiscal Year 2023. If you are a National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) grantee, potential grant applicant, member of the public, or other stakeholder, we invite you to the meetings Open Session.
| August 2022 Clinical Digest Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is challenging to study because of its varied, nonspecific symptoms, episodic nature, and the lack of confirmatory diagnostic testing. Although there is emerging evidence suggesting that some complementary health practices may be used for treating IBS, most of the studies have methodological flaws. Systematic reviews evaluating complementary modalities for IBS symptoms have concluded that few large, well-designed studies exist and further research is required to determine whether complementary or integrative health practices are effective for treating IBS. | Resources for Researchers BRAIN Initiative: Engineering and optimization of molecular technologies for functional dissection of neural circuits (UM1 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) Notice of Additional NIH Institute, Center and Office Participation in PAR-21-269 "Research on Interventions that Promote the Careers of Individuals in the Biomedical Research Enterprise (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)" Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Data Analysis Center (U24) Clinical Trial Not Allowed Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Coordinating Center (U2C) (Clinical Trial Not Allowed) Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Measurement Core (U24) Clinical Trial Not Allowed Limited Competition: Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Cohort Study Sites for Pediatric Follow Up.
