Announcements Melissa Trevio, Ph.D. andLanay Mudd, Ph.D. August 18, 2022 Are you an early career clinician-scientist interested in enhancing your research career? You may want to consider the KL2 Administrative Supplement Program for Complementary and Integrative Health Clinician-Scientists. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) is collaborating with theNational Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS)through itsClinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Programto support early career complementary and integrative health clinician-scientists with clinical and translational research training opportunities. Improvements in perceived stress may contribute to a reduction in low-back pain (LBP) and related disability in people with chronic LBP who receive physical therapy (PT), according to a recent analysis of data. However, the effects of yoga and PT on other psychological factors, compared to an education control group, were small and did not significantly contribute to improvements in LBP or disability. The analysis was funded in part by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and published in theJournal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy. | In a recent study published inNatureand partly funded by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, researchers at Harvard Medical School and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard identified a specific lipid responsible for the immunomodulatory properties of the gut bacteriumAkkermansia muciniphilaand explored the mechanisms by which it exerts its effects. Previous research has shown that the level of pain a person with LBP experiences is related to their psychological health. Some treatments for low-back pain, such as PT and yoga, which use a physical approach, have been shown to decrease disability and (in the case of PT) pain, as well as improve psychological factors such as perceived stress and anxiety. | Resources for Researchers Notice of NCCIH Technical Assistance Webinar for RFA-AT-23-005, Research Resource Center to Build an Open-Access Repository and Database for Anatomical and Physiological Correlates of Acupoints (U24, Clinical Trial Optional) HEAL Initiative: Translational Development of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Devices (R18 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) REsearch Across Complementary and Integrative Health Institutions (REACH) Virtual Resource Centers (U24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) Notice of Need to Expire and Reissue RFA-AT-23-004 Research Across Complementary and Integrative Health Institutions (REACH) Virtual Resource Centers (U24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) to Correct Review Notice of Pre-Application and Technical Assistance Webinar for RFA-MH-22-240, "BRAIN Initiative: Brain Behavior Quantification and Synchronization (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Optional)" Notice of Clarification of Research Examples for PAR-20-266: Promoting Research on Music and Health: Phased Innovation Award for Music Interventions (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Optional) HEAL Initiative: Development and validation of virtual assessments to study children and caregivers in their natural environment (R01- Clinical Trial Not Allowed) HEAL Initiative: Development and validation of virtual assessments to study children and caregivers in their natural environment (R01- Basic Experimental Studies with Humans Required) Fostering Mental, Emotional, and Behavioral (MEB) Health Among Children in School Settings: Opportunities for Multisite Trials of Complementary and Integrative Health Interventions (Clinical Trial Optional) Research Resource Center to Build an Open-Access Repository and Database for Anatomical and Physiological Correlates of Acupoints (U24, Clinical Trial Optional) Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Research on the Health of Bisexual and Bisexual+ People Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence Implementation Science Hub/Resource Center (U24 Clinical Trial Optional) Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence (U54 Clinical Trial Optional) Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence Data Innovation and Coordinating Hub/Resource Center (U24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) Highlighted Funding Opportunities Research Resource Center to Build an Open-Access Repository and Database for Anatomical and Physiological Correlates of Acupoints (U24, Clinical Trial Optional) This funding opportunity announcement supports the development and maintenance of a repository and database for commonly used acupoints along with key anatomical specifications and other relevant parameters, as well as integration with other databases with physiological correlates.
