Event Coming Up

Native Bee Workshop

This workshop will teach you everything you need to know about native bees and how to attract them to your garden! This is a rare opportunity to learn from native bee expert Dr Kit Prendergast, who no longer lives in Western Australia. She will give a presentation on native bee ecology, behaviour and identification. After morning tea we will then proceed to a hands on native bee hotel making workshop. The hotels we build will be installed in the Roe 8 corridor at a later date, but you will be able to go home with the knowledge to build your own hotel for your home garden. Please note this is a 16+ event due to the use of power tools.

Project Updates
  • We are in Birak, it is hot and dry
  • Many animals will be searching for shelter and water, so fill up bird baths if you have them
  • Watering of seedlings planted last winter has commenced and will continue until it rains
  • Danja/Woody Pears (Xylomelum occidentalis) are flowering in the Malvolio bushland (see image above). These plants are quite uncommon on the Swan Coastal Plain, so this is a great opportunity to see them in flower (the best place to see them is to go to the main gate on Malvolio Road, you will see them to the right of the path leading to the centre)
  • We are still finalising details of the Hearts Healing the Land Conference. Save the date (Tuesday May 2) and we will soon send an email out when tickets go on sale
  • DPLH submissions on future land use in Roe 8 (West) and Roe 9 close on January 20. We encourage you to put a submission in to request as much land as possible is set aside for conservation in this important wildlife corridor; go here for more information.
The Rehabilitating Roe 8 project acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we conduct our business.  We acknowledge that the Rehabilitating Roe 8 project area is Whadjuk boodja and pay our respects to Elders and Nyungar people past, present and emerging.
