More than 1,000 events across the country celebrated the work of apprentices during the fifth annual National Apprenticeship Week. Apprenticeships are industry-driven, high-quality career pathways in which employers can develop their future workforce and individuals can obtain paid work experience, instruction, and credentials.

Women in Apprenticeship

At the Departments Summit on Women in Apprenticeship this week, U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia, Deputy Secretary Patrick Pizzella, and Womens Bureau Director Dr. Laurie Todd-Smith spoke about Administration efforts to grow apprenticeship. A panel of experts discussed best practices for raising awareness among women about the benefits of apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship and Careers

Secretary Scalia visited the Phelps ACE High School career fair in Washington, D.C., this week and spoke with students about how apprenticeship provides a pathway to high-paying careers. By encouraging cooperation between educators and the private sector, we can foster a brighter future for young workers, Scalia said.
