MEDIA LOSER:
NYT Reporter Katie Benner

A New York Times reporter has deleted her tweet from earlier this week calling supporters of former President Donald Trump “enemies of the state.”

“Today’s [hearing] underscores the America’s current, essential natsec dilemma: Work to combat legitimate national security threats now entails calling a politician’s supporters enemies of the state,” posted Justice Department reporter Katie Benner on Tuesday in a now-deleted Twitter thread as the select committee hearing investigating the January 6 Capitol riot was underway.

“As Americans, we believe that state power should not be used to work against a political figure or a political party. But what happens if a politician seems to threaten the state? If the politician continues to do so out of office and his entire party supports that threat?” she continued. “The dilemma was unresolved by the Russia probe and 2 impeachments. With many Republicans denying the reality of the Jan. 6 attack, I doubt the #January6thCommittee will resolve it either. That leaves it up to voters, making even more essential free, fair access to the polls.”

Later on Tuesday, Benner tweeted, “I deleted unclearly worded tweets regarding the Jan 6. committee hearing.”

She offered no apology.

Not just over the line or irresponsible, but written in the same tone and words that Donald Trump would use.

No apology and a gimme to critics, who were numerous. Not a winning moment.

'Understatement of the Year’

Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) shared his disappointment that many of his fellow Republicans are so vehemently opposed to Congressional attempts to investigate the storming of the U.S. Capitol.

A reporter for TMZ caught up to Kinzinger on Wednesday, and he asked whether the congressman considers it a “badge of honor” that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is calling Kinzinger a “Pelosi Republican” because of his involvement with the January 6th House Select Committee.

“All I’ve said is we need to get to get to the truth, we need answers, and that’s what we’re gonna get,” Kinzinger said. “Sometimes, standing up and doing the right thing has its cost, but all I am is gonna defend the Constitution, so people can label me whatever they want.”

TMZ’s reporter went on by noting that Kinzinger and Liz Cheney (R-WY) are the only Republicans on the committee when the GOP claims to be the “back the blue” political party. As such, Kinzinger was asked if he feels “let down” by people in his party.

“I certainly wish there were more. I think that’s probably the understatement of the year,” said Kinzinger. “But I know what I made a commitment to. I’m a Republican, but my oath isn’t even to my party, it’s to the Constitution, so I’m comfortable with that, and I hope more people can become comfortable with that, but that’s everybody’s choice.”

Kinzinger was also asked for his reaction to Michael Fanone, the Capitol police officer who provided emotional testimony before the committee along with his colleagues. Kinzinger was specifically for his thoughts on the vulgar, threatening voicemail Fanone received from a Donald Trump supporter in response to his testimony.

His remarks in this clip are well worth listening to. Especially for the Republicans he is addressing.

City Council Saga

Tarrant City Councilwoman Veronica Freeman says that White Councilman Tommy Bryant and Black Tarrant Mayor Wayman Newton both called her a “house n***er” on separate occasions, and demanded that both of them resign.

This latest development in the atrocious saga of the Tarrant City Council was the subject of a CNN segment and it's just ... well hard to describe.

It's quite a thing to watch, though.
