Good evening,

Good evening,

Morgan Stanley is seeking to expand its Melbourne presence with a high-profile hire.

The top-tier investment bank has nabbed Goldman Sachs managing director Michael Ginzburg for the newly created position of investment banking business head in its Melbourne office.

Ginzburg is well known in the industry as a fintech specialist, advising Afterpay on its $39 billion deal with Square in 2021. He was also on the $NZ1.6 billion sale of Pushpay to BGH Capital and Sixth St.

At Morgan Stanley, Ginzburg will be charged with leading coverage of the firm’s investment banking and capital markets clients in Melbourne and growing its presence. It’s a new role for the Wall Street bank, reporting to chief executive and co-head of investment banking Richard Wagner and fellow co-head Tim Church.

Melbourne is considered a satellite office for the Wall Street banks but most have a presence, servicing a swath of corporate clients headquartered in the state. The city is home to some of the country’s top bankers including Citi‘s Tony Osmond, UBS’ Charlie Daish and Goldman Sach’s Nick Sims, among others.

Elsewhere, it’s a sell-side revival for AusCap Asset Management co-founder Matthew Parker, who has been named head of facilitation and trading at Morgan Stanley.

Parker left AusCap in May, the long/short boutique he co-founded with fellow Goldman Sachs trading desk mate Tim Carleton in 2021. At Goldman, Parker managed a long/short Australian equities portfolio, investing the bank’s proprietary capital.

Now an executive director at Morgan Stanley, Parker will help to make markets for the firm’s institutional clients, reporting to head of trading Paul Craft.
