Our pleasant summer is back! Tropical storm Cristobal is now past Minnesota and our nice, dry weather is back for the rest of this week. Sunny, clear skies tomorrow, with highs in the 70s across the state. You may want to keep a sweatshirt in your closet, though, since lows at night dip into the mid-40s this week. MPD chief: Minneapolis withdrawing from police union negotiations. Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said he wants a restructuring of the contract around issues of force, the role of supervisors and how officers are disciplined. He also expressed his frustration about the difficulty of trying to fire an officer for misconduct. Later, Mayor Jacob Frey said he supports the chief’s move. Frey had previously said he opposes the idea of “defunding” the police department a majority of the City Council members suggested earlier this week. COVID-19 in Minnesota today: 352 new cases confirmed, 19 new deaths; fewer than 200 in ICU. Minnesota’s total case count as of Wednesday is 28,869 and the total death toll is 1,236. The number of daily intensive cases remained under 200, the lowest it’s been in a month. Free COVID-19 testing available in Twin Cities this month. See where and when you can get tested. The four testing sites, three in Minneapolis and one in St. Paul, are available to anyone with or without symptoms. If you participated in the recent protests, cleanup efforts, or observed those events, officials encourage you to get tested. Starting today, restaurants may resume dine-in service, gyms and entertainment venues reopen - with limitations.
