| "Of the thousands of people Iâve dealt with in court, this guy stuck," Brennan McCarthy told USA TODAY. McCarthy represented a woman who Ramos pleaded guilty to harassing in 2011. The Capital Gazette wrote a column about the case, which prompted Ramos to file a defamation lawsuit against the Annapolis paper. An appeals judge threw out the suit in 2015. Ramos is now charged with killing five people at the Capital Gazette newsroom on Thursday.
