Accused Michigan terrorists found natural home among anti-Whitmer sentiment promoted by far right Last Thursday, 13 men were arraigned on state and federal charges for a plot to kidnap the governor of Michigan. It was a plot born from far-right extremists who wrapped divisive political rhetoric in a patriotic package designed to cast the governor as a “tyrant,” experts say. The group spent months training and refining their plan aimed at “kidnapping politicians and storming the Michigan Capitol Building in Lansing,” according to the affidavit. The men participated in multiple protests against the governor and sought to unite others in a violent campaign against government entities they believed to be violating the U.S. Constitution. A similar trend occurred in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, where Trump won by less than 1% and third-party votes swelled. But that's not what experts are predicting in 2020. They foresee a huge decline in third-party voting and a surge in voter participation. Gretchen Whitmer’s authority to issue orders was struck down by the Supreme Court, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services stepped in to issue an emergency public health order requiring masks. But the Supreme Court ruling, mixed with already present anti-mask mentality in Michigan, caused many to wonder if fewer people would be wearing masks.
