Everything we know about the Baltimore bridge collapse |
A container ship lost power and rammed into a major bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday, causing the span to buckle into the river below and plunging a construction crew and several vehicles into the dangerously cold waters. Rescuers pulled out two people, but six others were missing and are now presumed dead. The ship’s crew issued a mayday call moments before the crash took down the Francis Scott Key Bridge, enabling authorities to limit vehicle traffic on the span, Maryland’s governor said. As the tragic bridge collapse unfolded, Michiganders may have wondered if their state’s famous suspension bridge has ever been struck. The answer is yes. The Mackinac Bridge has been hit at least three times that have made headlines. |

Bird flu, weather, inflation: Why egg prices are near historic highs for Easter |
What to know: Egg prices are at near-historic highs in many parts of the world as the spring holidays approach, reflecting a market scrambled by disease, high demand and growing costs for farmers. The numbers: In the United States, the average price of a dozen eggs was $2.99 in February, down from $4.21 last year, according to government data. Still, that’s significantly more than the $1.59 cents per dozen consumers were paying in February 2021. So far in 2024, two rabid bats have been confirmed in Michigan. One of the bats was discovered in Berrien County and the other in St. Clair County, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. |

Strategizing: Former President Donald met with Michigan GOP chair Pete Hoekstra last Tuesday in Florida to strategize his reelection bid and keyed in on “nontraditional Republican voters," according to Hoekstra. In March, MLive commissioned the professional polling firm Glengariff Group Inc. to conduct a telephone poll of likely Ottawa County voters to gather their views on Ottawa Impact and the government’s performance. The survey reached 600 people. Here are six important takeaways. An update: An Upper Peninsula copper mine that has faced questions over its financing and environmental footprint is getting state funding. |

5 schools being searched for hidden cameras after janitor arrested for child porn |
The aftermath: Forest Hills Public Schools is searching five of its schools for hidden recording devices “out of an abundance of caution” after an elementary-school janitor was arrested last week on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. More in crime: A wrongfully convicted Battle Creek woman is suing after spending 18 years in prison for the death of her infant daughter. In education: Kalamazoo Public Schools has $561,127 in grant funding from the state to distribute to educators. But not all staff members are happy with how the district is choosing to disperse the funds. |

Oh, how the times have changed: Everyone wants to win. Everyone, it seems, also wants to play for Dan Campbell. All of which was expected to make the Detroit Lions one of the top free-agent destinations in the league.
