Which Michigan counties had the most distracted-driving crashes in 2022? |
Behind the wheel: Last year, Michigan had 15,441 vehicle crashes that were attributed at least partly to distracted driving. But which communities had the highest percentages of distracted driving? Here's a breakdown of each county’s rate of vehicle crashes in which distracted driving was found to be a factor, according to Michigan State Police records. Road closures: The state’s Department of Transportation lists 60 new closures between Friday, Sept. 8, and Sunday, Sept. 10. Hundreds more ongoing road projects will continue to close lanes, ramps and even full sections of highways. Police in the Grand Rapids area want the public’s help in cracking down on car “meet-ups” that often showcase dangerous behavior and, in a recent incident, led to a homicide. |

Childcare issues cost Michigan $3B a year in lost work, taxes |
Help needed: A new U.S. Chamber of Commerce report estimates Michigan is losing $576 million in tax revenue while Michigan employers lose $2.3 billion — a combined $2.88 billion — due to employee turnover and absenteeism caused by inadequate childcare options. Changes on the way: A slew of changes to Michigan abortion law could be coming. What won't change – for the moment, at least – is the fact minors will still need parental consent if seeking an abortion in state. Getting ahead: A new Grand Rapids charter school works to boost reading rates and "level playing field’ in low-income neighborhoods. |

Lions deliver on hype in 21-20 comeback win against Chiefs |
Strong start: The Detroit Lions flew to Kansas City for their most anticipated opener in years—Decades?Ever?—and came back to beat the defending champions 21-20 on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. Making their presence known: Lions fans have been hard to miss through the flights around the country, out on the town Wednesday night and outside of Arrowhead Stadium before the hotly-anticipated season opener against the Chiefs. Winner, winner: Spencer Torkelson hit two home runs and Matt Vierling had four hits to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 10-3 win over the New York Yankees in the series finale on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. |
