What does the weather look like this week? |
The southern half of Lower Michigan will be on the warm side of a storm system. There's a big soaker ahead for Northern Michigan with up to 4 inches of rain. How warm could the south get? Well, they could be putting shorts on this afternoon, Thursday afternoon and Friday afternoon. A batch of thunderstorms will likely form over part of Michigan today. These storms could be strong enough to produce isolated severe weather. |

New laws require Michigan schools, daycares to filter water for lead |
On Thursday, Oct. 19, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed “Filter First” legislation that requires schools and childcare centers to install filtered-faucets, develop a management plan and conduct testing to ensure children are drinking water free of toxic lead. Did you know? In the middle of western Lake Erie is a collection of islands where critical environmental research helps protect the shallowest but richest in fish among the Great Lakes. Counting up: The Michigan Constitution mandates the legislature this year to require financial disclosures for elected officials. But with Democrats still working on bills, Republicans fear a rushed and one-sided result. In Ann Arbor: Pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered outside the office of U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Ann Arbor, urging that she support the withdrawal of U.S military aid to Israel and a ceasefire in the region. Related: Former U.S. Rep. MSU trustee calls for Board chair to resign, alleging bullying and trips on donor’s jet |
Michigan State University Trustee Brianna Scott is calling on Board Chair Rema Vassar to resign, alleging that Vassar has violated the Board’s code of ethics, bullied university administrators and other trustees and overstepped her authority. An update: A Michigan State employee has been suspended and the Board of Trustees are "outraged" after a picture of Adolf Hitler was displayed on the videoboard during Saturday night's football game. For Michigan: According to ESPN, suspended Michigan analyst Connor Stalions purchased tickets for more than 30 games over the last three years at 11 Big Ten schools. |

When to see the bright, full Hunter’s Moon in the October night sky |
Info: A full moon will reach peak illumination on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 4:24 p.m., but it will appear to be full for several nights in a row. You’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for the big, round moon as it rises in the eastern skies starting Friday, Oct. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 29. So pretty: Have you been to the Arcadia Lookout? This tiny roadside park offers big views of gorgeous fall color and Lake Michigan. Family-fun: Wiard’s Orchards is in full swing for fall heading into Halloween, with improvements to its haunted houses, hayride wagons, retail store and new cider donut flavors. |
