Beach bovine brouhaha: Michigan teen’s photo shoot with cow sets neighbors on edge |
It's pretty common to bring towels or a cooler to the beach. A Michigan teen showed up with something more unconventional at a small public beach on the east arm of Grand Traverse Bay—his steer, Lil B. Wyatt Bargy raised Lil B on his family’s cattle farm in Kewadin as a 4-H project. At 18 months old and more than 1,300 pounds, the steer was ready to be sold at auction. Bargy arranged a beach sunset photoshoot for himself and Lil B for marketing materials. The late July photoshoot has been a topic of debate at the past two Board of Trustees meetings in Milton Township. It's also sparked a larger debate about how public spaces are used. |

UAW strikes all 3 Detroit automakers at once for first time |
Walking out: A contract for nearly 150,000 United Auto Workers (UAW) members across the country expired Thursday, Sept. 15 at 11:59 p.m., prompting a strike. For the first time in the union’s 88-year history all three Detroit automakers, Stellantis, Ford and General Motors, are the strike targets. At 10 p.m. Thursday, UAW President Shawn Fain announced three local union chapters – only one in Michigan – were selected to start the strike at midnight. Those locals represent Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Stellantis Toledo Assembly Complex and General Motors Wentzville Assembly Center in Missouri. Looking ahead: The strike could escalate from here. The UAW is strategically selecting local union chapters to strike automakers on a rolling basis. |

Michigan eyes 8-year gun ban for convicted domestic abusers |
New protections: A nearly decade-long firearm ownership ban for those convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors could soon be implemented in Michigan under a pair of bills making their way through the Senate. In less than a month, Michigan State Police troopers killed three gun-wielding, alleged domestic assailants, one of whom police say killed and dismembered his wife days earlier. While probes into the Wayne, Bay, and Saginaw County shootings remain ongoing, the troopers involved have returned to work. More in crime: An Oakland County businessman was sentenced to prison for bribing former state House Speaker Rick Johnson while Johnson led a board that granted medical-marijuana licenses. |

Campers can now do self-check-ins at these 13 Michigan state parks |
Skip the line: Thirteen Michigan state parks are now piloting self-check-in for campers.
