Two more students injured in MSU mass shooting released from hospital |
An update: Two more students injured in the Feb. 13 mass shooting at Michigan State University have been released from Sparrow Hospital, leaving two still hospitalized there. Of the two remaining students at Sparrow, one remains in critical condition and the other is listed as fair.

126-year-old U.P. university announces it’s closing, won’t enroll students next year |
The end of an era: The Board of Trustees at Finlandia University in Hancock announced Friday that the school will not enroll students for the 2023-2024 academic year. Finlandia said it will work with its current enrollment to help them transfer to another college or university. The Board wrote in a statement: “I am deeply saddened to announce that due to a combination of demographic changes, with fewer high school graduates available, a steep decrease in interest in going to college among those graduates, and an unbearable debt load, Finlandia’s Board of Trustees met and have decided to not enroll students for the 2023-2024 school year." Opportunity for tech students: The state announced the Michigander EV Scholars program, its latest incentive to boost its electric vehicle workforce. Scholarships up to $10,000 will be awarded up to 350 top technology students at University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Michigan Technological University. |

Thousands in Michigan rely on increasingly pricey insulin. Finally, a push to address cost. |
Last fall, federal legislators passed a bill to cap insulin copays at $35 per month for Medicare recipients effective in early 2023. More recently, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer proposed spending in the 2024 state budget to subsidize the manufacturing of low-cost insulin in Michigan. Then on Wednesday, Eli Lilly, one of three main pharmaceutical companies that supply insulin to patients in the U.S., announced plans to cut the list price on 70% of its most commonly prescribed insulins later this year, as well as cap out-of-pocket costs for even more Americans in need of insulin. More in public interest: Grand Rapids Public Schools is ramping up its efforts to ensure students are not working dangerous or illegal jobs, following a New York Times investigation into the growth of migrant child labor across the United States that prominently featured a Union High teen. |

It's what we do: Little Caesars, Domino’s, Jet’s, Hungry Howie’s — Michigan brought the country some of the most recognizable pizza chains. But only one firmly stakes their claim in pizza history as creating Detroit-style: Buddy’s. Another store: Buddy’s Pizza has preserved its original recipe from 1946. It’s a neighborhood staple in Southeast Michigan but the brand is eager to bring a slice of Detroit history to the west side. Today, the 22nd location is opening as a carryout-only store in Walker. From pizza to ice cream: Moomers Handmade Ice Cream is an iconic Northern Michigan treat and the annual opening is a sure sign that spring is on the way. The ice cream shop opened for its 26th season on March 3. |
