It was a busy weekend for spring high school sports as the 2024 MHSAA softball, baseball and soccer state finals were held. Here are the baseball results from Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4. For softball, here are the results from Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4. Lastly, I'll kick it off to soccer with results from Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4. In the football world, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson the Detroit Lions are expected to sign All-UFL Michigan Panthers kicker Jake Bates. The deal is expected to be finalized next week. |

| Trump visits Black church in Detroit, attends meeting of MAGA loyalists |
Over the weekend: Former President Donald Trump made a campaign stop in Detroit on Saturday, courting Black voters at a church ahead of the November presidential election. Trump hosted a roundtable discussion at the 180 Church on the city’s west side. He later spoke at an event called the “People’s Convention” in downtown Detroit hosted by the conservative group Turning Point Action at Huntington Place Convention Center. The roundtable discussion included about a half dozen small-business owners and community leaders who engaged with Trump on a few topics, including reducing crime, jobs, immigration and the border. Police identify gunman in shooting rampage at Michigan splash pad |
What we know: Police have identified Michael William Nash, 42, as the gunman who opened fire at a Rochester Hills splash pad and injured nine people on Saturday, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the shooting appeared to be “random.” Detectives found 28 shell casings at the scene where the sheriff said the gunman got out of his vehicle at the splash pad and opened fire with a Glock nine-millimeter handgun, possibly reloading twice. More in crime: The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is trying to figure out why a man allegedly entered into a home early Saturday, June 15 and stabbed an 11-year-old girl. The victim was brought to the hospital where she remains in stable condition. No one else was injured. |

Hot spell coming to Michigan; Here are 3 things to know |
How hot will it get? Monday through Thursday, most Michiganders can expect to see afternoons in the 90s. Most data points to no clouds and 96 degrees or 97 degrees being a popular number anywhere from Grand Rapids to Saginaw and southward. The hottest temperature this week should be around 98 degrees. There is a slight chance somewhere will touch 100 degrees this Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Is this a heat wave? There really isn’t an exact definition of a heat wave since “hot” and the duration of “hot” temperatures varies around the U.S. But for Michigan, our meteorologist would call this a heat wave when we are talking about 95 degrees or hotter for four to six days. Is this an historically long heat wave? It could be pretty close. For southern Michigan a stretch of five days in a row of 95 degrees would make the fourth longest multi-day hot stretch. |

These are Michigan’s best-rated roads |
Smooth riding: Michigan had 843 segments of roadway earn a perfect grade during the latest assessment period. Using a 1-to-10 grading system known as the Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER) system, Michigan had about 23% of assessed roads (primary and local) get a “good” rating, including the less than 1% that got a “10.” See the map here. To know: Watch out for Michigan’s latest road construction projects beginning this week. Between Sunday, June 16, and Saturday, June 22, at least 65 new lane, ramp, and road closures are scheduled to begin, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
