Huge comeback for the Lions |
The Detroit Lions trailed the Chicago Bears 26-14, with less than 5 minutes on the clock. ESPN gave the Lions a 1.8% chance of winning the game, fueling one of the most impressive comebacks in recent franchise history. Here's what was said nationally afterwards. Aidan Hutchinson put an exclamation point on wild afternoon, with a strip-sack fumble and safety clinching the dramatic win. The Lions are now 8-2 for first time since 1962. The Bears’ HC broke down Jameson Williams’ touchdown that sparked the comeback. Is your team headed to Ford Field? Check out scores from football semifinal games around the state. |

The top 50 Michigan elementary schools, according to U.S. News rankings |
U.S. News & World Report has released its ranking of the top public elementary schools in Michigan. Rankings were determined by students’ proficiency in math and reading, based on state assessments scores, as well as how well students from different socioeconomic backgrounds performed. Closing schools: Grand Rapids parents are disappointed in the possible closure of their kids’ schools. The district has been experiencing declining enrollment, resulting in far more building capacity than students. In college:Delta College and CMU created a transfer agreement for education students and Princeton Review says Michigan State University ranks in the top-50 "green" colleges. |

Accumulating snow possible with weather change just before Thanksgiving |
Know before you go: A strong cold front is going to sweep across Michigan Tuesday night. The precipitation prior to the Tuesday night cold front will all be in the form of rain, and light off and on rain at that. Wednesday is when areas of lake-effect snow will develop. About the warmth: Warm temperatures hung around in Michigan for quite some time last week, with highs in the 50s and 60s across the state. That time has passed and we’re now back to more seasonable temperatures, but we managed to break some records during that warm spell. Long-range forecast: The warm trend we had is behind us, and now we have a cold trend ahead of us. Temperatures are already on a downward spiral behind the cold front that moved through the state Friday morning, and they aren’t going to recover much in the near future. |

‘Death with dignity’: Medically assisted suicide may be legalized in Michigan |
Senate Bills 678-681: Ten states plus the District of Columbia allow physician-assisted suicide, when a person can request medical aid to die. Michigan would be state No. 11 if bills introduced by Senate Democrats last week become law. Another effort: Since 2015, a pair of bipartisan state senators have been trying to bring an open records law to Michigan’s legislature and the governor’s office. They feel particularly hopeful about 2024. Catch up quick: Though the state legislature is done for the year, that doesn’t mean the news is anywhere close to it. Here's this week's guide to Michigan politics. |

Michigan football fires Chris Partridge |
Assistant coach Chris Partridge was abruptly fired by the University of Michigan on Friday. According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, Partridge has not been implicated in the ongoing NCAA investigation into the program’s sign-stealing operation “but acted after the fact to cover up evidence.” About the game: Michigan held on to a five-point lead in the fourth quarter, getting a key sack, an interception and key punt to stave off Maryland, 31-24, at SECU Stadium. The team vowed to edit suspended Jim Harbaugh into the 1,000th win photo. The Old Brass Spittoon is back: The Spartans rallied late for a 24-21 win against the Hoosiers on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Now, they open as a nearly three-touchdown underdog in the finale vs. Penn State. |
