Popular butterfly exhibits open at Meijer Gardens, Dow Gardens

The annual butterfly exhibits at Dow Gardens in Midland and Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids officially open to the public today. We got a sneak peak Thursday of the simple magic on display at Meijer Gardens. If you've never been to one of these exhibits, maybe it doesn't sound all that exciting. However, we can attest there is just something pleasing about strolling amongst dozens to hundreds of colorful butterflies flittering about. Both exhibits run into late April. Just know that crowds can get rather busy during the peak times of butterfly season at the Gardens.

It has a rather scary name, but hoar frost really is quite pretty

It looks as if the next big snow system moving across the country will pass well south of Michigan. Great news for us. Not so much for the folks in the Ohio Valley. But, like most of the country, we'll get to deal with well below average temperatures for an extended period. Win some. Lose some. At least this long winter has provided some stunning pictures, such as this hoar frost gallery provided by the National Weather Service in Gaylord. MORE

Bob Seger just can't quit us and we like it

It seems as if Bob Seger isn't quite ready to turn the page. The Michigan rocker added a fourth concert date at DTE Energy Music Theatre to his farewell tour. Seger and The Silver Bullet Band now will perform in Clarkston on June 6, 8, 12 and 14. Hey, we've got all summer Bob, why don't you stay? We'll turn our backs against the wind, watch you make your night moves on stage and listen to that old time rock and roll music down on main street, in the street or wherever you feel like dropping a beat. MORE
