Farewell, Miguel Cabrera. |
Miguel Cabrera’s beautiful final day playing for the Detroit Tigers was unscripted perfection. The team gave Cabrera a hero's goodbye in front of a sold-out crowd on Saturday and named him as a Tigers’ special assistant after Sunday's game. "To say thank you falls short. I’m truly grateful," the future Hall-of-Famer said in Spanish to Detroit Tigers fans. Here's what teammates will remember about playing with the legend. What’s next for Miggy? Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said the club was willing to let Cabrera define his post-playing role as he sees fit. |

Michigan school shooter can be sentenced to life in prison, judge rules |
Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kwame L. Rowe ruled that 17-year-old Ethan Crumbley may receive a mandatory life sentence, despite being only 15 on Nov. 30, 2021 when he murdered four classmates and injured seven others, including a teacher at Oxford High School. Quote: “This was not an impulsive decision, nor was he peer-pressured into committing the crime,” Rowe said during Friday’s hearing held over Zoom. “He methodically walked through the school, picking and choosing who was going to die. He wanted to kill the innocent." More in court: Michigan judges must use preferred pronouns in court come 2024. |

Cold spurt eventually late this week. Will it stick around? |
Our meteorologist says: A very warm week is going to be followed by a strong cold front. You are probably wondering if Mother Nature will balance our weather out with a big cold spell. That doesn’t look to be the case. Fall color update: Every fall has some quirks to the leaf color show. One quirk this year is southern Lower Michigan is starting to show color and is not as far behind Northern Michigan as has been typical over past years. Got your glasses? Time to dig out your eclipse-viewing glasses from the 2017 total solar eclipse — two significant solar eclipses are in store for us between now and next spring. |
