Researchers converge on Lake Erie to learn what makes algae bloom so toxic
 
Researchers are putting on a full press effort to tackle the harmful algae bloom in Lake Erie. Dozens of scientists and engineers took to the lake this week to study and collect data on the annual toxic bloom. The unique, coordinated effort involved researchers from several universities in Michigan and Ohio, the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and environmental firm LimnoTech. Said one researcher: "This is probably the single most expansive sampling event of freshwater harmful algal bloom that I know of." MORE

Embattled state rep's texts released to the public
 
The texts that landed state Rep. Larry Inman in hot water earlier this year have been released. Prosecutors plan to use the texts as evidence against Inman if he goes to trial on allegations of soliciting a bribe, attempted extortion and lying to the FBI.
