What's the weather like this week? |
Most of Michigan will finally be on the warm side of a storm system. A large storm system hitting the western U.S. now will pull out into the Plains and move across the Great Lakes Tuesday night into Wednesday night. Michigan could be in an area of severe thunderstorms based on the look of Wednesday’s weather pattern. For our gardeners - egg shells can be a great source of nutrition for your garden, but what about salmonella concerns? |

| General Motors to move Detroit HQ to new downtown building, plans to redevelop Renaissance Center |
New look: General Motors will move its Detroit headquarters to a new downtown office building next year and work to redevelop its iconic home along the Detroit River, company and city officials confirmed. Orange cone season: Construction is beginning on a new roundabout in Jackson County and a $3.3-million bridge repair in Jackson will close a portion of M-50/U.S. 127 through November. Hop in: A new app-based rideshare pilot program is going live, and you can ride for free in the first month in Kalamazoo County. |

University of Michigan sets record 105K applications for fall 2024 |
The numbers: The University of Michigan set another application record for the upcoming fall 2024 semester, surpassing 100,000 for prospective first-year and transfer students. This new record represents an 11% bump from the year before. Admitted students have until May 1 to accept. While we're in town: The Ann Arbor Summer Festival recently announced the lineup for its Movies by Moonlight series set for June 18-30 during Top of the Park, which runs June 14-30. More in public interest: The most expensive restaurant in Michigan has been revealed and it’s a place known for its wood-fired steaks, raw bar, large wine variety and caviar. |

Swartz Creek woman reaches settlement in lawsuit against Cedar Point |
An update: A Swartz Creek woman struck by a piece of falling debris while waiting in line for Cedar Point’s Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster in August 2021 has settled her lawsuit against the Ohio amusement park. The nation’s highest court: In hopes of regaining property seized by the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office 15 years ago, a local law firm is appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court. Over the weekend:A Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Deputy is on paid leave as authorities investigate his decision to shoot and kill a suspect during a traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. |

Lucas Raymond’s late heroics keeps Red Wings’ playoff hopes alive |
Overtime win: Lucas Raymond scored with 1:17 remaining in regulation to tie the game. Then he scored with 24.4 seconds to play in overtime to lift the Red Wings to an exhilarating 5-4 comeback victory over the Montreal Canadiens at Little Caesars Arena in their home finale. For baseball: The Detroit Tigers went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position to squander an excellent start from Reese Olson in a 1-0 loss to the Texas Rangers on Monday night at Comerica Park. Mackinac Island to celebrate special ‘Opening Day’ of 2024 season |
Prep work kicked into high gear: Mackinac Island never really closes to visitors, but as the prime tourist season begins this year, there’s a group effort to have some of the island’s big resorts and most well-known businesses all roll out the welcome mat on the same day. Back in the mitten: The popular Grand Rapids Lantern Festival has returned to John Ball Zoo. MLive was there to capture video of numerous lantern sculptures that include a mantis, starfish, tunnels of light and a smoke-emitting morning glory flower.
