Control yourself: Debate over video games as a sport is about more than pushing buttons
 
What makes a sport a sport? Competition certainly is central. Training and skill are part of the picture. Some might suggest physical exertion is required. The picture starts getting a bit murky there, though. Is auto racing a sport? Is billiards? Is competitive cheer? Is robotics? The Michigan High School Athletic Association is tackling the fascinating debate on whether video gaming should be considered a varsity sport. Regardless, esports is a growing field of competition. Proposed restrictions on inland lakes access sinks with boaters
 
Michigan boaters and anglers have responded negatively to a proposed state House bill that, as written, would restrict boating access to all inland lakes to "between the hours of 8 a.m. to sunset." The legislation has bipartisan sponsorship. However, several state representatives have said the bill is a nonstarter in its current form. MORE

Both were in the thick of the Big Ten Conference race (with MSU claiming the regular season and conference tournament titles), and both are in this week's Sweet 16.
