Biden joins UAW picket line, a presidential first |
Making history: President Joe Biden joined picketers at General Motors’ Willow Run Redistribution Center in Belleville on Tuesday, Sept. 26, telling workers it’s their turn to share in the record profits of the Detroit automakers. His visit marks the first time a sitting president joined a picket line in modern history, according to the White House. "Barely veiled threat": The United Auto Workers president Shawn Fain criticized Ford Motor Co. for halting development of a electric vehicle battery plant that is expected to create 2,500 jobs in southwest Michigan. In recovery: Several people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a person drove through a group of United Auto Workers strikers at the Flint Processing Center. |

Help amid punishment: Michigan to reform treatment of kids in justice system |
State lawmakers are hoping to improve how Michigan treats its young people who have committed crimes.The Justice for Kids and Communities package supports programs that reduce incarceration, data-driven tools for diversion and court decisions and establishes a statewide youth public defense system. Finding home: Jeff and Katie Steele and their nonprofit Kids Belong are making plans to help foster kids who "age out" of foster care to get homes of their own with family support. What’s that in Ann Arbor? House decked out with artist’s colorful tapestries |
Drawing attention: More than a dozen colorful tapestries arranged in a starburst pattern recently appeared on the side of a bright yellow house in Ann Arbor's Old West Side. It’s the work of Jackie Weddell, who goes by the artist name Jackie Blue. Up in smoke: Three Claude Monet paintings were destroyed in a 2022 house fire in Pentwater Township on the shore of Lake Michigan, according to documents filed in a legal dispute between the paintings’ owners and their insurance company. Together, the paintings were valued at more than $45 million.
