The weekend is finally here! Here's a round up of fun events to explore this weekend as you round out your plans. The Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s next concert features a pair of Jackson-based painters and composers for a multi-sensory exhibit. The “Pictures at an Exhibition” is 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Jackson College’s Potter Center .

In the Upper Peninsula, the Soo Locks is set to reopen its biggest lock Friday night and ship-enthusiasts can see which Great Lakes freighter will be the first to pass through in this annual tradition. The park adjacent to the locks and viewing platform opens at 11 p.m. on Friday and will close at 1 a.m. Saturday, March 25.

Here's a roundup of five fun things to do in Ann Arbor this weekend that range from a comedy showcase to Ann Arbor City Club’s Flea Market.

Parents of Oxford school shooter can face trial, court says

Day in court: The parents of a teenager who killed four students at a Michigan high school can face trial for involuntary manslaughter, the state appeals court said Thursday in a groundbreaking case of criminal responsibility for the acts of a child.

James and Jennifer Crumbley are accused of failing to secure a gun and ignoring the mental health needs of their son before the shootings in November 2021. Four students were killed and seven people were wounded. Crumbley, 16, has pleaded guilty to terrorism and murder and could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

House lawmakers gave the final OK Wednesday to safe storage legislation meant to keep guns out of the hands of minors. This follows a 2021 shooting at Oxford High School.

"It’s been a party that’s always apologizing. We’re done.”

Michigan’s weekend weather has a heavy snow possible for Traverse City and north

More snow is coming: While it's not certain exactly who could get heavy snow, this weekend could have several inches of heavy, wet stuff. With temperatures near freezing and some melting, a 4 inch to 8 inch snow across far northern Lower and the Upper Peninsula could be in the forecast.

Searching for the Northern Lights: The Keweenaw, Marquette, and Munising areas have had some great opportunities to view the aurora over recent weeks and months. It looks like that trend may continue into Friday night.

Michigan State falls to Kansas State in overtime Sweet 16 thriller

What dreams are made of: A Michigan State team that fought through plenty this season went down swinging at Madison Square Garden in its finale. The Spartans lost a Sweet 16 thriller to Kansas State, 98-93, ending MSU's season at 21-13 overall and with the program’s 17th Sweet 16 appearance.

Mark your calendars: NFL sets specific dates for 2024 draft in Detroit. The draft’s main site will focus around Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza downtown, with several interactive elements planned for attendees across the three days during the last weekend of April 2024.

Switching teams: The changes keep coming on special teams for the Detroit Lions. Josh Woods is the latest departure. The Arizona Cardinals announced they signed the linebacker and special teams standout to a one-year deal.
